2010-04-21 Carlos Vinhas, 48, Portuguese-SA salesman, found murdered, rural Kruger Park, Numbi Gate

Buks Viljoen reports in Beeld newspaper that 48-year-old Portuguese-South African salesman Carlos Vinhas ’ body was found Tuesday-afternoon about 2km from the Numbi-gate of the Kruger Wildlife Reserve – opposite the famous Phumalani Lodge. He was lying about 100m away from his bakkie. He was dressed in a t-shirt and underpants: his upper clothing and shoes were missing. There weree ‘numerous assault marks’ across his body. “It looks as if he was running away from his attackers when he was shot dead,’ said SAPS spokesman Leonard Hlathi. A passerby came across his body at around 2pm when he went to investigate the abandoned Toyota Hilux-bakkie left about 300m off the road in the thickets. Reports are that Mr Vinhas had still had lunch earlier that day with a friend in nearby Hazyview.
