George botanical garden: Dad, 3-year-old son found dead

2010-08-01 Eugene Gunning writes in Die Burger Afrikaans daily from GEORGE that an unnamed local man and his three-year-old son were found dead in the Garden Route Botanical Garden.

SAPS captain Bernadine Steyn said they were found by a dog-walker around 13:30 on Saturday among woods in the botanical garden.
The little boy had open wounds to the chest, stomach and back. A 'fish-gun' was found near his body. About ten meters away his father's body was found with open wounds to the chest.
He held a knife in his hand. After she was notified, the man's widow was taken to hospital for trauma-treatment. A murder dossier was opened.
Nobody has been arrested. George's ex-mayor Flip de Swardt, who lives near the gardens, said people were very shocked.
He said it's an 'isolated incident' and he goes for a walk nearly every day at that site. Curator Dayne de Wet said he was 'aware of the incident' and called on people not to walk in the gardens at night.
