SAPS capt Dennis Adriao said it came to light in their investigation that the woman had placed the bomb-threat call to prevent her daughter from Johannesburg to George. Upon arrival at George the passengers underwent an emergency evacuation from the plane and the aircraft was thoroughly examined and searched for bombs.
No dangerous explosives were found but the State's electronics communications tracing division allegedly located Mrs Davida as having been the person who allegedly placed the call on her cell phone.
She made a brief appearance before magistrate Eric Mhlari who postponed the case to 'somewhere in July' pending further investigations. Even though she was not yet asked to plead, and thus her name should NOT have been revealed to the news media under the SA laws regarding publication of accused persons, her name was revealed and the SAPS allowed her to be photographed at the court.
The woman allegedly is also facing civil charges for the expense incurred by authorities for evacuation and searching of the craft.
