BOTRIVIER, HERMANUS - May 28 2012 - Residents of Botrivier said in public protests on Monday, according to EWN, that their local town council had only built four so-called RDP houses (for low-income families) since 2011.
They burnt tyres INSIDE the local municipal office, reported Malungelo Booi.
They complainted that black and coloured communities are 'sidelined while white residents were given preference. They claim 'even the contractor who built four houses was not paid'and demand answers from officials.
SAPS spokesman November Filander said about 700 people have been protesting since early Monday-morning.
"Some burnt tyres. Two roads in Botrivier were closed.'
A local businessman told the radio staton journalist that he has been battling to get into Botrivier. "It was difficult to get in. It was quite peaceful but there are a lot of people blocking the road. At the top part of town, you can see they are burning some stuff.'

In a later news update on Twitter, EWN mentioned that the 'residents were arming themselves with fighting sticks and throwing stones and the police were getting ready.'
