Description
Happy, dancing, singing crowd says they are 'unhappy about SAPS' not protecting Colenso residents
14 May 2012 - They were laughing, singing and dancing because they were dissatisfied with the service they get from the police.
This is their way of showing their dissatisfaction. They danced, sang and laughed all the way to the police station from Weenen Road.
Ladysmith officials referred to as 'public safety officers' were on hand to keep the peace.
It seems that the Colenso community feel that their police officers are not performing their duties to the best of their ability.
"We do not feel safe in Colenso because police officers don’t do anything about the rampant crime here," complained one furious resident.
Banners were waved in the air, bearing messages such as ‘Employ new police officers in Colenso’.
"Our police officers don’t seem to be worried about the safety of the people, If this is the case, they should be sacked in favour of new officials who actually want to protect and serve us," fumed another resident.
The marchers sang and chanted as they went on their way, with no unpleasant incidents being reported.
