Alberton: Well known businessman Mornè Barnard will be laid to rest on Thursday April 5 at 14:00 reports Alberton journalist zelda Viljoen.
"He was such a nice man" said Carol, one of his customers at Vibez Hairsalon. Flowers are streaming in from all his customers and members of the community with condolence messages to his friends and family. The flowers are being placed on the doors of the hair salon and notices are up saying the salon will be closed till further notice.
The two unidentified accused men appeared briefly in the Alberton Magistrates court today, where they were refused to plead.
The case was moved to the Germiston Regional Court till further notice. NO NEW COURT DATE HAS BEEN SET.
The businessman, 39, was found murdered on March 31 in his townhouse in St Aubyn Street, Alberton.
Journalist Zelda Viljoen wrote on 2 April 2012 that the murder took place at approximately 22h00 on Friday March 30.
Barnard was attacked by one of the two men who he had met with earlier that same evening.
He was repeatedly stabbed with a knife. Neighbours claim they heard a man scream for help but shortly after it went quiet.
The horrific crime scene was discovered by employees of Barnard when they realised something was wrong when he didn't show up to unlock the salon on Saturday morning.
"I have never seen so much blood," said one of the employees who discovered the body.
According to Lt Col Beck, head of the detective unit in Alberton, the victim met with two young men on the evening of March 30.
The three went to the victim's home where they allegedly ate takeaways together. It's still unclear what the motive of the murder was.
It's alleged that one of the men involved, aged 20, phoned the police on Saturday afternoon and gave a statement leading to the arrest of the second man involved, who is 21.
.According to the eyewitness who supplied the statement, Barnard was friends with the young man.
The murder was committed with a kitchen knife which was later found at the home of one of the suspects along with blood stained clothing.
They have been sent for forensic testing. Keys, a cell phone and various jewellery were taken from the victim’s home and sold by the accused on the night of the murder.
Some of the items had been reportedly recovered in Rosettenville.
The two men are both in police custody and scheduled to appear in the Alberton Magistrates court on Tuesday April 3.

Twee mans verskyn môre in die landdroshof in Alberton nadat die lyk van ’n plaaslike haarkapper in sy meenthuis se gang gevind is.
Die twee mans, albei in hul vroeë 20’s, is ’n paar uur nadat die lyk van mnr. Morné Barnard (39) eergisteroggend in sy meenthuis in St Auburnstraat, Alberton, gevind is, in hegtenis geneem.
Volgens lt.kol Gregory Beck, bevelvoerder van die speurtak in Alberton, het een van die mans eergisteroggend die polisie gebel en later ’n verklaring afgelê.
Een van die mans was met Barnard bevriend. Na verneem word het die drie mans Vrydagaand wegneemetes gaan koop voordat hulle in die meenthuis gekuier het, het. ao. Annzuette Erasmus, polisiewoordvoerder van die Alberton-polisie, eergisteroggend op die toneel gesê.
Kort voor 21:00 het daar glo ’n struweling ontstaan en Barnard is talle kere met ’n mes gesteek.
Hy is in die gang van die huis dood.
Die moordenaars het glo seeppoeier oor die bloedkolle in die gang en kamers uitgegooi.
Die vermoede bestaan dat dit gedoen is om die reuk te verdoesel of dat hulle die bloed wou afwas, maar gevlug het voordat hulle dit kon doen.
Hulle is blykbaar te voet weg uit die meenthuis.
Talle items soos selfone, juwele en die huis- en motorsleutels is gesteel.
Van die items is later by ’n huis in Rosettenville, Johannesburg, teruggevind.
