Vd Merwe/Blomstrand Afrikaner family accosted by two black men demanding they step outside their Witfield home: Nov 16
Mrs Yvette Blomstrand, a resident at 58 Scholtz Street, Witfield, and her family, were accosted on the evening of November 16. Their ADT security company was alerted after Mrs Blomstrand, her husband Martin van der Merwe and her two children woke up when two black men were inside their yard, knocking on their bedroom windows, shouting and demanding that the family step outside. These two men were not alone: there were two other vehicles parked outside the house with people inside, apparently. The two men had damaged their gate and their gate's motor to get inside their property. Their 19-year-old son confronted the men from the window. Mrs Blomstrand pressed her ADT panic button after the men asked if there were any young children in the house and "demanded that we come outside the house."
These two men then fled in a Toyota Hilux, without taking any property. The family members said that moreover, 'these men were not alone and said there were other two vehicles parked outside the house (a Black Jumbo Golf and the Hilux). These men reportedly 'were not worried about the property, they just wanted us outside the house, which was very scary,” Mrs Blomstrand reportedly said.
SAPS Sergeant Nienaber of the Boksburg North SAPS said a case of "malicious damage to property" was opened at their police station. He said that there are more crime incidents around the Witfield-dam area where people sleep in the bushes -- and he said 'especially when people are stupid enough to hang around there at night'. It's an area to avoid. In the daytime however he said there also were incidents were schoolchildren were accosted there and pulled off their bikes and robbed of their cellphones. "It's just the usual routine crime,' he said.
