OCTOBER 28 2011 - Mrs Susan Madsen-Leibold writes; My daughter of 18 years was yesterday assaulted by a warden at the gate of the Westville Prison Property because she refuses to drive on the sidewalk as he refused to open the boom gate for her to exit. He hit her with a metal stick of a broom over her breasts and while she was trying to get away on her scooter he breaks the metal stick in half and carry on hitting her running after her.
She was taken to the hospital and a case is been activated against the warder. This morning when I took my daughter to the school, she is busy writing matric exams on top of it, the same warder was laughing and carrying on with his life as if nothing happened at all.

Matric girl beaten with metal rod

A matric pupil, in the midst of her final exams, has been left traumatised after she was beaten with a metal rod, allegedly by a warder at Westville Prison.
The warder told police that he was infuriated after the schoolgirl called him the K-word.
Suneric Madsen-Leibold, 18, a pupil at Gelofte Hoërskool, in Pinetown, has been left shaken by the assault and her parents fear that it will affect her exams. The incident happened late last week.
She lives on the prison property with her father, Eric, a prison warder, and mother, Susan.
Susan said that since the assault her daughter had been extremely emotional and depressed.
“I worry that this could impact on her exams. She is supposed to be studying, not worrying about this. I have taken her to the doctor, but she is still very upset and in pain. I don’t know how she is going to focus on learning for the rest of the exams.”
Susan said the incident happened after the warder allegedly refused to open the gate for Suneric to exit.
“Suneric was on her way to the shop on her scooter. She hooted for the warder to open the gate for her, but he apparently ignored her. She then had to exit through a small gap next to the boom gate. She told me she was irritated and called him an a****** and not what he is alleging.”
She said Suneric returned from the shop about an hour later.
“As soon as she stopped at the boom gate he pulled out a metal rod and began whacking her all over her body. She was screaming and crying but he refused to stop. Suneric said he seemed like he was in a frenzy,” Susan said.
Suneric eventually broke free and ran home.
“I was shocked when she walked through the door. She was bleeding and crying. I rushed her to the doctor. He treated her for wounds to her back, breasts, buttocks and thighs.”
The mother and daughter then went to Westville Police Station where they opened a case of assault.
“We also reported the incident to prison authorities, but no action has been taken. He still sits at the gate and grins every time he sees us.
“Suneric was wrong in calling him that name. But he had no right to assault my child.”
Department of Correctional Services spokeswoman, Nokuthula Zikhali, said the matter was being investigated.
“After the investigation is finalised we will be able to issue the statement,” she said.
Attempts to contact the warder were unsuccessful. Authorities at the prison said he was on duty and could not take calls. Messages were left but he did not respond at the time of going to press.
Provincial police spokesman, Colonel Jay Naicker, confirmed that a 39-year-old prison official of Westville Correctional Services was charged with assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm.
He is due to appear in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court on Thursday. - Daily News http://www.iol.co.za/news/south-africa/kwazulu-natal/matric-girl-beaten-with-metal-rod-1.1169075
