2011-09-20 Volksblad journalist Tom de Wet writes from TROMPSBURG in the Free State that a local police-officer handed his rifle to a five-year-old to hold while the cop at a meal.
The cop was on guard-duty at a pension-payout site to protect pensioners from armed robbers on Friday Sept 16 2011. Some took the picture with his cellphone
The photographer said the child took the barrel of the gun in his mouth, moved around with it and openly played with it. After a while a second policeman arrived, took the gun away and locked it in a police vehicle.
