High School pupil Eddison van Staden needed two emergency operations at Kimberley Hospital after he was assaulted by two pupils at Kuilsville Afrikaans High School.
The two pupils - brothers - beat up Grade Ten pupil Van Staden, 18, outside a classroom on Thursday at 13:00.
The two brothers appeared Monday in the local magistrate's court for attempted murder. A shocked family member said Eddison - who lives with his grandmother - sustained serious head-injuries
His condition is ' serious but stable' said a hospital spokesman. A family member - fearing reprisals for lodging a criminal charge against the brothers -- asked that the relatives' names not be published.
SAPF Capt Tony Modise confirmed the case.
