2011-08-19 Beeld journalist Buks Viljoen writes that the local Nelspruit policing-district commanding officer, Brig. Vusi Mdakane (51), appeared in Nelspruit magistrate's court accused of fraud. The documents allege that in December 2010, Mdakane submitted a false travel-claim to the Komatipoort border post for an ; official visit'. However said police spokesman Leonard Hlathi, the counter-corruption unit established that Mdakane had gone there on a private visit. It's not known what amount of 'fraud' the trip involved. He was arrested in front of all his staffers yesterday morning at his office. He was released on R1000 bail.
The case was postponed to 25 August. Nelspruit police station was voted the country's best last year.
